How We Air Layer Your Kohala Longan Trees
Each air layer starts as a healthy straight branch on our mature longan trees. We carefully select branches, make an incision, and apply rooting hormone to encourage root development. The incision is then wrapped with moist peat moss and secured to create a humid environment for new roots to form. Once sufficient roots have developed, we separate the new air layer from the parent tree and transplant it into a 3-gallon pot with a natural potting mix.
To ensure the strongest growth, we then strip the leaves off and place the plant in a special high-humidity shade house. This environment allows the tree to re-leaf and develop a robust root system before it's ready for you to plant!
Caring For Your Kohala Longan Trees
Longan trees are easy to grow and require minimal maintenance. They prefer well-drained soil, rich in organic matter. These trees can grow to be quite tall, so ensure they have ample space to thrive.
Mature trees need consistent watering throughout the year, with increased water during the flowering and fruiting seasons. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer, such as 8-8-8, monthly from March to October. Healthy leaves are green year-round, though it is normal for leaves to yellow in sustained cold due to lower iron uptake or as they age.
Longan trees typically flower in the spring, and you can expect to harvest fruit around 120-150 days after the flowering stage.
