These plants start as healthy cuttings taken from our mature grove of mother plants. These cuttings are shipped bare root, which means we root them in coco coir and then carefully wrap them for shipping, ensuring they're ready for planting upon delivery.
The American Beauty variety is sweet and self-fertile, allowing for self-pollination. They can bloom multiple times per year with the right mix of sun, water, and fertilizer.
Caring for Dragon Fruit
The American Beauty Dragon Fruit cactus is drought-tolerant, requiring 5 to 10 gallons of water per week. It thrives in USDA zones 9-11 with full sun exposure (6+ hours per day). Limit watering during the fruiting season to avoid fruit splitting. The plant prefers well-drained sandy soils. In the spring, fertilize with a bloom-encouraging fertilizer (3-9-4 for organic or 10-30-10 for conventional). In early summer, use an 8-3-9 fertilizer, and in the fall, apply a potassium-rich fertilizer such as 0-0-14.
