Red American Beauty (AB) Dragon Fruit plant, well rooted and ready for planting.
These plants start as healthy cuttings taken from our mature grove of mother plants. We root in coco coir then up-pot into potting mix.
American Beauty is sweet and self-fertile which means they can self-pollinate. They can bloom multiple times per year if given the right mix of sun, water, and fertilizer.
Their fruit is sweet with an earthy note and its texture is often compared to kiwifruit.
About Dragon Fruit Cactus
The American Beauty Dragon Fruit cactus is drought tolerant, needing 5 to 10 gallons of water per week. It grows well in USDA zones 9-11 in full sun with 6+ hours of sun per day. It is important to limit watering during the fruiting season to avoid fruit splitting. They prefer well drained sandy soils. In the spring fertilize with a bloom encouraging fertilizer. If organic use a 3-9-4 and for conventional use a 10-30-10. In early summer fertilize with an 8-3-9 and in the fall fertilize with a potassium rich fertilizer such as 0-0-14.
